The first Lotus Formula 1 car for 15 years hit the race track on Tuesday as Fairuz Fauzy completed a secret shakedown for the team’s 2010 challenger at Silverstone. As AUTOSPORT’s exclusive spy shot of the new car shows, the so-far unnamed machine was running in the historic green and yellow colours that were so synonymous with Lotus in the 1950s and 1960s.

It is not clear, however, whether the team will keep these colours for the season or they have just been used for the initial run. The successful shakedown of the car marked an emotional moment for the Lotus team, which was only granted an entry for the 2010 season back in September.

Having undertaken the first engine fire-up of the car on Saturday, the team travelled to Silverstone to get some mileage on it before its official launch in London on Friday.Team principal Tony Fernandes admitted that the first run with the new car had meant a lot to him. “Shakedown started. Quite a few tears,” he wrote on his official Twitter feed.

Lotus is scheduled to begin proper testing of the car at next week’s third pre-season F1 test at Jerez in Spain. Ihsan Autosport

Tahniah 1Malaysia F1 team Lotus kerana berjaya mendapatkan penaja

LONDON, March 2 — CNN International will sponsor Lotus F1 in a long-term deal, the new Malaysian-backed Formula One team said today.The agreement will see the news network’s branding on the race cars, drivers’ overalls and all team clothing from this season.

Lotus team principal Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said the deal was a “sign of the positive impact we have already made in the global business market that such a prestigious brand… has made the decision to partner with us”. No financial details were given. — Reuters

Jangan ada yang salah faham ye….Petronas dengan Petrobras ada berbeza sama sekali. Petroleo Brassileiro S.A atau singkatannya Petrobras adalah sebuah syarikat gergasi minyak dari Brazil. Bukan calang-calang untuk sebuah syarikat besar seperti Petrobras berhasrat untuk menaja 1Malaysia F1 team Lotus. Hebat juga Datuk Tony Fernandez daripada segi pemasaran.

According to Brazilian media reports, Lotus is close to securing a sponsorship deal with Petrobras. Some of the reports said a deal between the new Malaysian-backed team and the semi-public Brazilian oil company has been done. But UOL Esporte quoted a Petrobras official, whose employer was last involved in Formula One with Williams, as clarifying that a contract is still “under consideration”.

It is expected that the talks will be completed by the end of the month. O Globo said the branding of Petrobras, which had agreed to sponsor Honda in 2009 before the Brawn takeover, will be added to Lotus’ green T127 at the Spanish Grand Prix in May. That report said the value of the deal is about $9 million, with an official admitting that some talks with other teams have also taken place.

Another source said the value of the Lotus deal is closer to $5m. Petrobras’ technical boss Rogerio Goncalves told UOL Esporte that even if a deal is made, the company would not have enough development time to supply fuel in 2010. Williams’ Petrobras deal ran between 1998 and 2008.

Maxis masuk dalam senarai penaja bagi 1Malaysia F1 team Lotus

Lotus Racing announced today at its homecoming celebration showcase in Pavilion that they have a new sponsor on board – telecommunications company Maxis Communications. I guessed as much after spotting a Maxis logo on the F1 racer’s nose earlier in the morning before the announcement.

Sandip Das, Maxis Berhad Chief Executive Officer said, “Maxis is pleased to broaden its sports involvement through the sponsorship of the 1Malaysia F1 team Lotus. Maxis’ commitment to Lotus Racing promises to deliver a more integrated F1 experience to our customers with immediate access to the latest racing news and information via their mobile phones, wherever and whenever they want. In addition, lucky Maxis customers will have the exclusive opportunity of watching the Sepang Grand Prix live this coming weekend compliments of Maxis.”

“There is money in the sponsorship. It is a firm one-year sponsorship with long intentions,” said Jean Pascal Van Overbeke, Maxis’s chief operating officer. So it is not only for the Malaysian race. But the company declined to reveal how much it was forking out for the 1 year sponsorship.
